ip.access appoints Philip Rimell as Chief Operating Officer

Networks & Network Services
ip.access, the developer of picocell and femtocell solutions to boost mobile phone coverage indoors, has announced the appointment of Philip Rimell as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Rimell joins ip.access from telecoms solutions provider JacobsRimell, which he co-founded in 1997 to provide automated provisioning and activation for a wide range of IP-based services to cable, wireline and wireless operators. Rimell was responsible for the architecture that underpinned all JacobsRimell products and growth prior to its acquisition by Amdocs in 2008.

Rimell succeeds outgoing ip.access COO Alan Hewitt, who is retiring after having successfully established ip.access’ femtocell delivery programme.

Welcoming Rimell, Stephen Mallinson, CEO of ip.access, said, “Everybody here at ip.access is excited to have such a respected industry figure as Philip joining our management team. His experience and expertise in delivering major systems for the fixed and mobile telecoms market strengthens ip.access’ capability to meet the needs of our operator customers and sustain the company’s growth and ongoing success, which Alan Hewitt was instrumental in helping to establish. We are immensely grateful for his contribution and wish him a very happy retirement.”

In August, ip.access was named to the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 list of the UK’s fastest-growing technology companies for the second successive year. The company has also won numerous industry awards - including a Global Mobile Award and a World Communications Award - for its Oyster3G femtocell product. The Oyster 3G is currently in trials with Tier One operators worldwide.
