iPass adds 51,000 Wi-Fi hotspots

iPass, provider of mobility services for both enterprises and service providers, has announced that it has expanded the iPass Mobile Network in South Korea through its partnership with SK Telecom, a major wireless telecom operator in South Korea.

With the addition of 51,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, enterprise mobile employees and roaming service provider partners of iPass now have access to more than 600,000 Wi-Fi venues worldwide.

“South Korea has long been a leader when it comes to mobile broadband,” said SK Telecom’s senior vice president and head of customer marketing office, Kim Sun Jung. “SK Telecom made the decision to extend our Wi-Fi services, and the addition of 51,000 hotspots is a direct outcome of that effort. We will continue to evolve our wireless network by boosting our network capacity and deploying more Wi-Fi hotspots across the country.”

With the iPass Open Mobile platform, a cloud-based services delivery system, enterprises can enable mobile employees to seamlessly connect their laptops, smartphones and tablets to the iPass Mobile Network, the world’s largest authenticated Wi-Fi network, while ensuring IT departments have complete visibility and control of network usage, security and costs wherever their employees travel.

iPass OMX is a Wi-Fi exchange that quickly authenticates wireless subscribers to preferred Wi-Fi networks around the globe by leveraging iPass existing global data centers. iPass OMX offers zero click mobile data offload services with domestic and international data roaming between 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks. The Wi-Fi exchange also simplifies and expedites the process of bilateral network connectivity between service providers, increasing their speed to market, optimising network costs and operations while also allowing them to monetise Wi-Fi only devices that have been traditionally out of reach.
