JVC Move to IP Telephony

Reseller Switch Communications has completed a major, multi-site VoIP installation for electronics giant JVC, including its new London sales and distribution centre as well as its Irish warehouse site.

The solution comprised a CAT6 cabling and fibre backbone in combination with secure wireless access points to provide the bandwidth and flexibility to support Alcatel’s IP telephony solution – the Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise telephony platform, the Alcatel OmniSwitch 6800 Power-over-Ethernet switches, the Alcatel OmniTouch Contact Centre software and Alcatel IP Touch phones.

Switch say that as a result, JVC now benefits from crystal clear communications and a range of easy-to-access functions, including advanced voicemail facilities and access to an LDAP directory, as well as a newly commissioned contact centre to handle technical support and queries. The wireless access points also provide a convenient way for authorised visitors to access the Internet and connect into JVC’s network while on site and in the warehouse, improving the speed of the fulfilment and stock control processes.

At the Irish distribution site, Switch Communications brought in its sister company, SwitchIP, to install InPurple – its own secure, centrally managed broadband-based Virtual Private Network (VPN). This extended network now supports all email communications between each site and delivers centralised access to JVC’s main database applications. InPurple’s stringent Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee ensures the network always runs at an optimum speed – without any frustrating periods of slow time during peak usage. Additionally, its single centrally managed firewall offers a greater degree of security than other VPNs.
