Mitel partners with HIPCOM to achieve SIP interoperability

Mitel has worked closely with HIPCOM, the SIP service provider, to certify its services for interoperability with Mitel’s IP communication systems and applications. HIPCOM’s services have been certified in Mitel’s SIP Centre of Excellence, which also celebrates its 5th anniversary this year.

In its five-year history, Mitel’s SIP Centre of Excellence has been utilised for certifying 47 providers globally for interoperability with Mitel systems. Based in Ottawa, Canada, the centre enables Mitel to manage its own SIP certification and work together with service providers to efficiently and reliably achieve certification. At Mitel’s SIP Centre of Excellence, the certification process can be completed in as little as two weeks, which is a significant time reduction on alternative methods.

SIP enables businesses to save both time and money in maintaining and updating their communications systems. With an IP connection, SIP enables unified communications applications to be deployed within hours instead of weeks by delivering them over the internet, whereas traditional systems require much longer for physical installations. This presents a significant cost saving and gives businesses much greater flexibility.

Adam Knight, Director of Technology for EMEA at Mitel, commented: “With far more reliable and powerful network services now available, SIP is increasingly being recognised for its huge potential. Businesses are seeing rapid returns on investment and numbering flexibility with SIP trunking deployments, and Mitel is constantly pro-actively working with leading service providers like HIPCOM to ensure businesses have interoperability confidence with the best services available.” He adds “SIP interoperability is a core element to the broader Mitel applications eco-system. It is essential as Mitel continues its drive to expand its technologies and routes to market as an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) along with Microsoft in the emerging new market of Private or Public based hosted services from within the cloud.”

HIPCOM, CTO, James Brind, added: “HIPCOM continues to partner with Mitel to deliver a high quality of experience to our partners and their customers. Small and medium sized businesses are always looking for ways to reduce cost and improve productivity; our goal is to continue interoperability testing to ensure that our platform supports the best products on the market for the benefit of our wholesale partners and their end user customers. We are delighted to be working with Mitel where partners can now access value-added services and continue taking collaborative communications to the next level.”

The productivity benefits of SIP can also be significant through extending the SIP capabilities of the corporate network outside the LAN, satellite offices and remote workers. Customers can also use VoIP and other real time communications applications to share ideas and increase productivity without being restricted by geography.
