Mobile film directors revealed by Samsung

Today the four Directors who have been exclusively commissioned by short film giants, Future Shorts and Samsung Mobile, have been revealed. The four leading Directors include the visionary filmmaker Mike Figgis, celebrated creative duo Rankin & Chris productions, music video gurus Phil & Olly of Diamond Dogs, and one of the UK's brightest new talents, James Lees.

Each director was given the brief to ‘Spontaneously Capture Life in HD’, and their interpretations can be seen on www.futureshorts.com/samsunghd where fans can vote for their favourite HD film, to celebrate the launch of the Samsung i8910 HD mobile phone, the world’s first phone that records HD video.

The Samsung Mobile sponsored HD films will form part of the Future Shorts Please Say Something short film festival, running from May to June nationwide, which started at The Ritzy in Brixton on Thursday 21 May.

The festival will also feature an interactive website where film lovers can see behind the scenes, swap clips, chat, twitter, join in on Facebook, view the films or register to see the films at a local cinema. The winning film will go on to be viewed in 108 cinema screens nationwide.

In addition to the four directors’ films, four hand picked apprentice filmmakers have shot exclusive behind the scenes content on the making of each of the Directors films.

Commented director Mike Figgis: "More people have become familiar with the idea of short films being part of the culture now, as part of film making, so many short film competitions, and lots of people with mobile phones want to gradually ease their way into the movie market."

Fabien Riggall, creative director and founder of Future Shorts, stated: "There has been a phenomenal growth in interest in short films. We reach 10 million people a year with our content, and an audience that trusts us to deliver the best content from around the world. We have a large and engaged community who appreciate and enjoy relevant premium content from a relevant quality brand. Future Shorts and Samsung Mobile are set on catapulting the short film medium into the mainstream through a highly innovative and original partnership.”

While Derek Williamson, general manager at Samsung Mobile, added: “Samsung Mobile will become part of the Future Shorts community, and through this partnership create a whole new audience of switched on and engaged filmmakers and film lovers, inspired by the latest technology and the most creative short film directors working today.”
