Mobility + management = productivity, says Siemens Enterprise Communications

Lord Heseltine’s 228-page report, entitled No Stone Unturned, calls for further action from the government to stimulate growth and outlines 89 policy recommendations to impact on the government’s ability to interact effectively with business throughout the country.

Coalition business minister Vince Cable said: “Lord Heseltine’s findings show where government can improve its performance in delivering better interventions. We will now need time to consider its numerous recommendations and will respond in the coming months.”

In the light of this time delay, Siemens Enterprise Communications believes that it is up to individual wealth-creating businesses to review their organisation and structure in order to cut costs, remain productive, and ensure profitability in order to thrive whatever policies are eventually enacted.

The recent recovery has seen smart businesses investing in the latest technologies to cost-effectively serve widely dispersed and highly mobile, virtual teams. However, Siemens Enterprise Communications believes that without a focus on the management of mobile employees, full productivity cannot be achieved. The way in which they are managed and incorporated into how a business operates will have a dramatic effect on productivity.

Trevor Connell, managing director, Siemens Enterprise Communications, comments: “Technology has transformed the culture in the workplace. If implemented with the right training and guidance, mobile working strategies offer unprecedented office productivity gains. Every company, across every business sector, is looking to transform the way they work and ‘out-innovate’ their competitors. However, it is important to consult employees to ensure the user experience is seamless across devices, locations and teams.

Increased mobility and less traditional workplace structures will ensure that organisations of all sizes capitalise on the brighter economic outlook. Managers, not technology alone, play a pivotal role in unlocking the potential of virtual teams.”
