Motorola to slash 4,000 more jobs

Networks & Network Services
Motorola has stated it is set to drop another 4,000 jobs, mainly from its mobile devices division. The cuts amount to 6% of its remaining workforce, following 2008 job cuts of 6,700 people. The move comes due to poor sales and lowered demand for its handsets, the manufacturer said.

Additionally, Motorola claimed it would make a fourth quarter loss due to lack of sales.

Its latest job losses will give the manufacturer savings of around £1 billion during 2009.

Motorola sold in the region of 19 million handsets during the fourth quarter last year, from 40.9 million in the same period 2007.
