NEC brings the enterprise to smaller resellers

NEC demonstrated its SV8500 switch, which hit the UK indirect channel for the first time at Convergence Summit South, as well as introducing the channel to the SL1100 switch, a smart communication server that is specifically directed at smaller businesses, as well as the SV8100.

The SV8500 can meet the needs of the largest enterprises, with the capacity to support up to 192,000 ports. Andrew Cooper, sales director at NEC commented: “The SV8500 has been around for years globally, and has been a very successful enterprise switch so has a proven track record. It has typically been sold globally as a direct offering by NEC in other markets, but we are now bringing it into the UK market as an indirect product, expanding NEC’s product reach from SME into enterprise.

“We are increasing our penetration into the indirect channels, and have got lots of products in our portfolio that over the next year we will open up to our channel partners. It’s an evolution, not a revolution,” he added.

“We want to challenge the preconceived idea that the enterprise market is a difficult market; if you look at our competitors, many make resellers jump through many hoops to sell enterprise products, whereas we want to adopt the same approach to enterprise that we do with the SME market. Our ethos is all about being easy to deal with.”

He continued: “The 8500 is being introduced to the channel here at the show. It isn’t something new; it’s a tried and tested platform that we’re introducing to the UK market. The 8500 will be wildly popular we hope, and with our approach we are making it easy for smaller business that traditionally haven’t been able to sell products like this to get involved.”

An intelligent communications platform, the SL1100, which launched in June this year, packs affordability, efficiency, IP-telephony and ecology into a single system, claimed Cooper.

“The SL1100 is our most reseller-friendly series so far,” noted Cooper. “We’ve ensured that set up and system commissioning time can be brought down to an hour, providing an excellent benefit to resellers once out the road.

“It’s very quick, very easy, and a very low cost entry level product for resellers to get involved with. Taking the SL1100 into a portfolio is a simple and straightforward process for a reseller, placing them in a strong position against their competitors,” he stated.

NEC also demonstrated the SV8100 on its stand at Sandown Park, a product that offers a unified communications solution that can stay scalable and cost effective at every stage from 15 to 512 extensions.
