NEC’s iPASOLINK solution successfully tested in EANTC’s carrier Ethernet interoperability test

At the Carrier Ethernet World Congress in Barcelona (17-20 Sept 2012) NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announces and showcases the successful interoperability test results that its mobile backhaul transport solution iPASOLINK achieved during the European Advanced Network Test Center’s (EANTC) Carrier Ethernet Interoperability Test in Berlin from 20-31 August 2012.

“This is the fifth consecutive year in which NEC has participated in the test, each time with great results. The successful results demonstrate that NEC’s microwave solution is ideal as a transport technology for Carrier Ethernet,” said Hiroya Nakata, vice president and general manager, Mobile Wireless Solutions Division, NEC Corporation.

“The results will give network operators an added degree of confidence so they can proceed with their own evaluations and implementations of new solutions based on these new Carrier Ethernet technologies. NEC’s iPASOLINK is highly reliable and makes installation very simple for network operators.”

The Interoperability Test (IOT) evaluates innovative packet transport technologies. It focuses on new approaches to packet networking seeking to improve flexibility (one network for any service), efficiency (optimising available capacity) and carrier grade reliability.

Microwave MPLS-TP QoS Support
SyncE ESMC over Microwave
IEEE1588v2 Best Master Clock Selection both of a boundary clock and a slave scenario.

Microwave MPLS-TP QoS Support

“Microwave links are a commonly used substitute for long-haul fiber in the field. Especially now that Adaptive Modulation can select the highest possible modulation scheme at a given point in time based on atmospheric conditions. Since changing conditions can decrease the overall throughput of the link, it is important to have a solution to ensure that important traffic is not dropped when the air capacity is reduced. When the air-interface capacity is reduced it is paramount on the microwave solution to offer traffic prioritisation capabilities.”

SyncE ESMC over Microwave

Ethernet Synchronisation Messaging Channel (ESMC) provides a mechanism for the synchronous Ethernet receiver to select the best available reference source, so they can deliver reliable and high quality clock to mobile backhaul and end-user devices.

IEEE1588v2 Best Master Clock Selection both of a boundary clock and a slave scenario

“The Precision Time Protocol Best Master Clock Selection provides a mechanism for a synchronisation slave to select the best master clock in their respective synchronisation domain.1” It allows the slave to lock onto the best available clock source. As with the SyncE this also enables mobile base stations to be synchronised.

The multi-vendor Interoperability Showcase organised by the EANTC at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress (CEWC) 2012 in Barcelona consists of full equipment setup and short demo presentations. NEC engineers will be present to explain iPASOLINK equipment. EANTC also published the results in the white paper.
