New Guide To Managing Power Protection For Critical Systems

The Power Protection Guide, written by Robin Koffler and Jason Yates of Riello UPS, provides detailed information on how to design and implement secure power continuity plans to protect critical organisational processes and systems. The intended readership includes IT and facilities managers, solutions resellers, electrical engineers, contractors and consultants.

The publication contains 290-pages of information and best practice advice split into ten key topics. Starting from an overview on how electricity is generated the guide discusses power quality issues, typical problems and common solutions. The writers then review the various uninterruptible power supply topologies available, sizing and selection matters, reliability and resilient designs, before considering battery solutions, alternative standby power sources, alarm monitoring, installation and maintenance. Appendices provide sample forms for site surveys, system sizing and various method statements.

“Over the last couple of years we have seen a surge in business continuity awareness across IT and industrial markets. Here, sophisticated users are looking to achieve the highest levels of system resilience possible, combining uninterruptible power supplies in parallel configurations with generators, dc flywheels and even fuel cells”, commented Robin Koffler, General Manager for Riello UPS Ltd. “In addition they are accustomed to information at their fingertips from internet search engines and various intranets. We therefore felt that now was the right time to publish this new overview on the power protection technologies available and provide a single up-to-date information resource.”
