New VoIP Regulations a Good Start says VanillaIP

David Dadds, managing director of hosted IP telephony provider VanillaIP and Chairman of the Federation of Communication Services VoIP group, says the new regulations for VoIP providers that came into force this week are interesting.

“In lots of ways no one really knows the major issues that could come out from the Hosted VOIP market because for the first time a whole new wave of smaller service providers are delivering services that were traditional provided by a few, very large carriers.

Overall our view is that the regulations are a good start but at the same time the Hosted Service Providers must be responsible in providing a high degree of self regulation so that Ofcom are comfortable in their “light touch” to the VOIP market. We do not want to encounter the same sort of problem that the 09 providers have recently self inflicted.”
