With research showing that current calling cards deliver just 28% of advertised minutes*, O2 today announces it will shake up the market with a fresh, clear and open approach that gives customers 100% of advertised minutes. O2’s new International Calling Card offers competitive rates from just 1p per minute combined with a high quality call experience and no hidden catches such as connection charges, disconnection charges, maintenance fees or premium rate access numbers.
In addition to not delivering advertised minutes, Ofcom’s report on the international calling card market noted other common poor practices. These included early disconnections, poor quality lines, inability to activate cards, and complexity of charges**.
The O2 International Calling Card costs £5 and will be available from over 20,000 retail outlets across the UK, including O2 stores.
“The International Calling Card market is notoriously grubby and we know that consumers are crying out for a quality product from a trusted brand,” said Gary Booker, O2’s Consumer General Manager. “Our new calling card follows the successful launch of our International Favourites bolt on and is part of our strategy to grow our share of the overall international calling market.”
O2 International Calling Card joins O2’s growing portfolio of international calling products and is aimed at people who like the convenience and control of calling cards but are fed up with not getting true value from other more scammy offerings. For those that want to talk to friends and relatives abroad for longer periods of time, O2 International Favourites offers a staggering 3000 minutes for just £10 per month.
Both O2 International Calling Card and International Favourites are built upon Jajah’s innovative voice over IP platform which delivers high call quality. Jajah was acquired by Telefónica in 2010 and its expertise has been crucial in helping O2 develop its international calling products.
The O2 International Calling Card will be distributed by Elite Mobile.
