An intrepid team from Opal, the provider of next generation communication technologies for the channel, recently undertook the challenge of a lifetime to help raise money for The Princes Trust which benefits thousands of children across the UK.

An eight strong team from Opal completed the Capgemini Wild UK Challenge, a physical competition lasting three whole days, raising over a total of £6, 200

An annual event to raise money for The Princes Trust, the Capgemini Wild UK Challenge involved mental and physical tasks including hiking, biking and kayaking 100 miles across breathtaking stretches of Somerset and Devon.

Colette Howard, Systems Trainer at Opal and the only woman in the 8 strong team commented, “The Capgemini Wild UK Challenge was one of the most exhilarating and exciting things I have ever undertaken. The experience alone was wonderful but the fact we were doing it for such a worthwhile cause made it all the more rewarding. I’d like to congratulate the entire Opal team and thank all the people who sponsored us.”

Racing against both the clock and 41 other teams, the coast –to – coast challenge begins on the rugged coast of West Somerset at Dunster Castle and involves navigating across Exmoor’s wild scenic landscapes, crossing Lake Wimbleball before continuing through rolling farmland alongside the River Exe and finishing on the sweeping beaches of South Devon.

Robert Hutton, Director - SME Sales UK who sponsored the Opal team £2,000, commented, “The Opal team did a tremendous job, The Wild UK Challenge is a gruelling competition and raising over £6,000 is a great accomplishment.”

Ian Wilkins Indirect Channel Manager at BlackBerry, who also sponsored the Opal team £1,000, said, “Hats off to the Opal team – they’ve survived three days of intensive physical activity and raised much needed funds for a very deserving charity.”
