Networks & Network Services
Openwave Systems, one of the world’s main software innovators offering a mediation platform and tools to mobilise the internet, has announced the appointment of Heikki Makijarvi as vice president of business development, effective 17 August. Makijarvi brings more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications and networking industry with key companies including Accel Partners, Cisco and Nokia.

In this newly created role, Makijarvi will be responsible for creating new opportunities to leverage Openwave’s industry leading platforms and tools, evaluating and managing strategic business opportunities, partnerships and alliances. Makijarvi will report to Openwave’s CEO, Ken Denman.

“As we identify new strategic opportunities for Openwave, we will rely on Heikki’s knowledge of the evolving mobile and internet landscape and deep industry relationships, and we are pleased that he will lead our business development efforts,” said Denman. “At Openwave we continue to see the distinction between the mobile and broadband internet collapsing; as it does, we believe that companies like ours with domain expertise in both areas will be increasingly important to an expanding roster of key players.”

“I see a tremendous opportunity for Openwave; the company is at the intersection of communications and the internet and can play a pivotal role in helping to shape the future of this market,” said Makijarvi. “I look forward to applying my experience in an effort to forge valuable business opportunities for Openwave and its unique software assets.”
