Orange UK launches 20MB fixed broadband trial

Orange has launched a trial offering download speeds of up to 20 Meg on its own fixed broadband network. The trial will monitor stability and performance of the faster speed before it is rolled out across the wider Orange network, and builds on CEO Tom Alexander’s commitment to improve Orange’s fixed broadband offering and ensure the company meets the needs of the 21st century customer.

Speeds of up to 20MB broadband are being made available to a group of Orange home broadband customers already on the company’s fixed broadband network. Depending on the quality of the line and distance from the exchange, these customers will be able to be re-graded onto faster profiles and will be able to receive download speeds of up to 20MB, all for the same price as their current up to 8MB service. Those participating in the trial will also be supported by a specialised support team and a microsite has been created to help manage the process and keep customers informed of progress.

Speaking on the announcement, Asif Aziz, director of broadband and home at Orange UK, said: "This trial is an important step in enabling us to offer up to 20MB home broadband to consumers across our network. It is also testament to our ongoing commitment to evolve our fixed broadband service and ensure we offer customers a truly reliable user experience.”

The move follows the largest set of improvements to the company’s fixed line broadband service to date.
