The RMX 2000 (version 2.02) and HDX telepresence endpoints (version 2.02) were tested in a Nortel lab facility and are verified as compatible with Nortel MCS 5100 (version 4.0). The Multimedia Communication Server (MCS) 5100 is a leading unified communications solution which seamlessly integrates IP Telephony, multimedia conferencing, instant messaging (IM), presence and other collaboration tools for employees — anywhere, anytime, increasing user mobility, enhancing productivity, improving the effectiveness of communications and reducing communication costs.
The joint solution allows MCS 5100 users to easily initiate high-quality video calls from the familiar user interface of the Nortel Multimedia PC Client (MMPC) to Polycom HDX telepresence users. In addition, MMPC and HDX users can easily join multipoint conferences on the RMX 2000 along with PSTN, H.323, and phone participants using Nortel phones registered to Nortel’s CS 1000 IP PBX.
Conference security is provided by the RMX 2000 password hierarchy, which allows automatic generation of conference, guest, and chairperson passwords. Conference security is also guaranteed through features such as conference lock, participant entry/exit tones and name announcement, chairperson required to start conference, and conference auto termination based on flexible rules, for example, when the last participant exits the conference.
Solution scalability is achieved through direct integration using the lightweight Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Alternative integration approaches through proprietary Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) or through signaling and media gateways would limit the scalability of the solution.
