Rising Star Aria Networks appoints Stephen Newton to Board

Aria Networks, a network capacity management and planning software developer today announced that Stephen Newton, an experienced and successful non-executive director and seed investor, has been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors.

Newton has over 25 years’ experience in business development in the telecommunications sector, following a career in corporate management, sales and marketing. He has invested in a number of technology companies and was part of a management team that steered Geneva Technology, a supplier of billing software to the communications industry, from product launch through rapid growth to acquisition for $700m.

He was also recently appointed an honorary Ambassador for the Telemanagement Forum and is chairman of the advisory board to AsiaInfo Linkage, the leading provider of BSS solutions to the Chinese telecoms market.

Newton commented, “Aria Networks’ recent success in winning business worldwide can be attributed to an increasing awareness in this market that IP, optical and mobile networks must be better designed and optimized to significantly increase the profitability of the business. I am intending to help the company capitalize on its expertise in optimization, its excellent range of solutions and growing market demand.”

A recent example of Aria’s success is with Telus (see link below), a leading national telecoms company in Canada. After considering a range of solutions, it decided to implement Aria Networks’ IP capacity planning products to support its growing, entertainment-focused IP networks in the access, edge and core domains. Telus has an annual revenue of USD 10.4 billion and 12.7 million customer connections over which it provides a wide range of services including wireless, data, voice, IP, and TV.

Besides this North American success, the company is also seeing new business opportunities emerging in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region. Newton added, “Whilst Aria Networks’ customers have achieved real benefit from efficiency and cost-reduction improvements, I believe there is huge potential for Aria Networks to help service providers maximise the revenue potential from their networks.”

Aria Networks’ CEO Tony Fallows said of the new appointment, “We are very pleased to have Stephen joining the Aria Networks Board. He’s already proven himself to be a dynamic member of the team, with a wealth of experience in the OSS/BBS industry as well as valuable insight into markets we intend to exploit further into our next financial year."

Newton has arrived at Aria Networks at an exciting time for Aria Networks, which earlier this year received very positive assessment of its products and approach to network capacity management from Analysys Mason, telecoms, media and technology industry analysts. Analysys Mason’s report commented, “Aria Networks' capacity management solutions can reduce network capacity costs by 15% per year, while increasing revenue from business services by up to 17%. Aria Networks’ detailed bill of materials and various reports, especially the cost report, are important in ‘what-if’ analyses as well as in responding to major customer requests for customized high-bandwidth service configurations.”
