Rocom Huawei – Deal or No Deal – the Farce Continues

Rumours circulating in the channel over the last couple of weeks that distributor Rocom was set to secure exclusive distribution rights from Siemens for the Huawei data product range the PBX vendor is handling in the UK appeared to be confirmed yesterday by Rocom Business Development Director Richard Carter.

Carter told Comms Business Magazine, “This is a significant deal for Rocom that will position the company well. Rocom has invested heavily in getting the right support team in place for the Huawei products and the move will enable us to target the data centric reseller community.”

Meanwhile Andy Penn, IP Infrastructure Manager at Siemens was less than forthcoming today when asked to comment on the Rocom deal when he told Comms Business Magazine “Siemems has no comment to make.”

Asked whether Richard Carter was wrong to say the deal was concluded Penn once again took the fith and said “No Comment.”

Last month Steve Norman, managing director at Rocom had been coy about the deal stating that Huawei were just one of a number of companies that he was talking to with regards to expanding their portfolio.

“Rocom is well positioned to move ahead of our competitors in the voice and data convergence market.” Norman said, adding, “There will be a number of new announcements such as this in the coming months and we expect Rocom to make significant channel offerings in the second half of 2006.

The Siemens deal with Huawei was first thought to focus on mobile technology and infrastructure products and limited to Asia. The more global nature of their partnership is likely to have an impact on networking giant Cisco. It is also thought that to secure the deal Rocom had placed a £0.5 million kit order with Siemens.
