Samsung’s launches ‘Planet App’ competition

Samsung Electronics has announced a new competition to find the best app idea for its latest Android powered handset; Galaxy Portal. Designed to appeal to those of us with great ideas but less than brilliant technical knowledge, Samsung’s Planet App competition is the chance to see your ideas become a reality.

Whether it’s an idea for an app that gets the kids up for school on time, tells you what to wear in the morning, or simply helps you keep track of the football scores more easily, Samsung wants to hear from you.

Suzi Perry, TV presenter and gadget expert, knows a thing or two about technology and will be short listing ideas that will be put to a public vote: “I’m looking for ideas that are fun and inventive or would be useful to my everyday life. It’s so exciting to be able to make someone’s idea become a reality as most people would be put off even thinking about developing an app because it’s too technical. We’re urging people not to worry about that; we don’t want to constrain creativity.”

Joining Perry as a judge on the App Panel is Jon Carney CEO of digital agency Marvellous, and together they will decide which app idea is good enough to be put to the public vote to decide the winner.

So, if you have always wondered why there isn’t an app for something in particular then just send in your idea via the website. Once the panel of judges have chosen a short list of five, Samsung will put it to a public vote to find the winner. The idea that gets the most votes gets made and will be available for everyone to download from Android Marketplace for free. As well as seeing their idea become a reality the winner also gets £2,000.
