The Benelux Group of the SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) has confirmed that the theme of its upcoming Benelux lecture will be 4G LTE and its impact. Entitled “What will 4G LTE deliver for Europe?” the event will cover a wide range of topics presented by speakers from key players in the industry including Ericsson, Swires Research, Technetix and Alcadis.

To be held on 11 September at the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam during the IBC exhibition, the lecture meeting will provide greater insight into 4G LTE for members and non-members of the SCTE, the global body that represents its members by aiming to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. The Benelux Group is one of a number of regional groups that are part of the worldwide SCTE organisation.

“The need for greater capacity for mobile services is resulting in a move towards 4G LTE for mobile operators. This brings greater efficiency and also the extra bandwidth that is required to keep pace with the increasing demand for such bandwidth-hungry services,” said Rien Baan, Chairman of the Benelux Group of the SCTE. “Extra bandwidth is being allocated within the spectrum that has traditionally been used by the terrestrial television broadcasters and cable operators. So, as new services are rolled out, cable operators and domestic installers must be ready for the problems and the business opportunities that will arise.”

Dr Roger Blakeway, President of SCTE, commented: “The Benelux Lectures are part of our regular series of lecture meetings across the globe in which we aim to update and inform our members and the industry generally about the trends and developments that will affect our lives, both as individuals and in our working environment. I am delighted that we have been able to create such an interesting and thought-provoking programme to offer during IBC.”
