Shazam on App Store downloaded 1.5 million times in six weeks

Shazam, the mobile music discovery provider, has announced its application for the iPhone has been downloaded by over 1.5 million people in the first six weeks of its availability on the Apple App Store.

The application has been one of the most popular applications available for the iPhone. Its ease of use has made iPhone users some of the most prolific Shazamers, having identified more than 20 million music tracks in the last two months.

Andrew Fisher, Shazam’s CEO, commented: “The Shazam iPhone application has had a phenomenal user response both in the number of downloads and the number of tracks being identified. The application taps into the user’s desire to discover, capture and share their music experiences and the success confirms our belief that music recognition will become a ubiquitous feature for all mobile phones in the future.”

The iPhone application has allowed Shazam to deliver a comprehensive and compelling music service into the hands of consumers to move music discovery beyond music recognition. The application allows users to identify music tracks, watch the related videos on YouTube, and buy identified tracks through iTunes straight to the iPhone. Users can also tag the identified tracks with photos to instantly capture the moment and share these memories with friends.

The success of the iPhone application has epitomised Shazam’s exponential growth over the past twelve months, with Shazam recently announcing that it has 20 million customers across the world.

Shazam is focused on continuing to improve its iPhone application and will be launching a premium application, based on user feedback, with additional features and functionality in the coming months, as well as increasing monetisation of the application through mobile advertising.
