Shoretel to Push Architecture Envelope

Over the last three or four months most of the C level executives from Shoretel US have visited Europe and Comms Business Magazine met up with VP of Engineering Dale Tonogai shortly after he landed from California to attend the Shoretel Sales Conference in Geneva where he will be presenting a road map for their IP PBX.

“We keep close to our overseas markets”, says Tonogai, “And on this occasion I’m here to meet with resellers as well as to bring our sales team up to date with planned development for our next release of software.”

Although Tonogai did not want to go in to specific new features he did outline the areas where developments would be made.

“Mobility applications are very key to the UK market so expect new functions to be added there as well as to more intelligent call routing features and better systems integration at the network layer. We will also continue to push the distributed architecture envelope. Overall, we have achieved a lot and are already ahead of our competitors but there is still more that can be done.”

Shoretel consider they are ahead of the game in three key areas; scalability and reliability through their architecture which enables them to leverage IP applications, ease of administration to make complex functionality simple to implement and the quality of their ergonomics for the systems components that users touch – phones and application software.

“These three areas, when aggregated, make our systems less expensive to purchase and manage as well as easier to use. Our whole design approach is to provide a compelling TCO for our products.”

Tonogai concluded by adding, “Shoretel is maniacally committed to the customisation of our product for all the markets in which we operate. In the UK that means supporting ISDN, fixed mobile convergence and the mobility applications that are regarded so seriously here. We won’t resting on any laurels, in fact we are spending more now on developments for overseas markets than we are for our domestic product.”
