SMC Networks ships Fast Ethernet Switch

SMC Networks, a provider of LAN hardware and broadband connectivity devices, today announced an addition to its family of unmanaged rack and desktop switches.

Designed for both SoHo and SMB environments, the EZ Switch SMCFS26 is a high

performance, 24 port standalone 10/100 unmanaged switch that delivers fast Ethernet

connectivity to the desktop. If a Gigabit uplink to the core network is required, the two 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports make sure that power users do not create a

network bottleneck.

With no configuration necessary, the SMCFS26 has 8.8 Gbps of aggregate bandwidth and offers a host of intelligent features, including auto-negotiation, which automatically adjusts switch port configuration to allow for different connection speeds or duplex modes. The switch also benefits from automatic MDI/MDI-X operation on all ports, allowing the use of either straight-through or crossover cable for all network connections to PCs and servers, or to other switches or hubs. Additional features include store and forward switching for error-free transmission and at-a-glance LEDs for port and system status monitoring. Half and full duplex flow control prevent packets from being dropped under heavy loading.

Suitable for desktop or rack installation, the switch complies with the IEEE802.3-2005

standard to ensure compatibility with standards-based hubs, switches and cards from any vendor.

“Increasingly, small businesses are looking for a workgroup switch solution that combines simple network connectivity with easy installation,” said SMC’s Director of Product Marketing Iain Kenney. “The new EZ Switch offers this straight from the box, with nothing to configure.”
