Somo Vendor for Google’s GetMo

Somo is a confirmed vendor for GetMo, the new Google initiative which aims to help businesses take advantage of the opportunities presented by mobile. GetMo, which launches today in the UK, aims to inspire, educate and enable the creation of UK mobile sites to ensure today’s digital consumers enjoy the best web experience possible, whichever device they use.

Visitors to the GetMo site will be able to access best practice advice on mobile site design and build, see examples of great mobile sites, and be connected with a group of specialist mobile development agencies that can help them ‘get mobile’. Having produced industry-leading sites for clients including Nationwide, Virgin Games and Audi, Somo is proud to be a confirmed vendor for GetMo.

A mobile-friendly site is increasingly vital for businesses of all kinds. UK smartphone penetration has surpassed 50% (Kantar), mobile devices make up around 8% of all online traffic (comScore), and according to Google’s Our Mobile Planet, 93% of smartphone owners use the Internet on their phone every day, at home, at work and on the go.

Jocelyn Bull, Marketing Director at Somo, said: “We are very pleased to work with Google on such an important project and are looking forward to working with some of the thousands of businesses who are yet to join the mobile revolution! Research we performed last month found that even the UK’s top retailers are struggling to keep up with new developments in mobile. Despite the fact that half of people in the UK now own a smartphone, one in five of the top 100 online retailers have no mobile products at all, including PC World, Thomson and BHS. And only half have a website that works on these increasingly popular handsets. We wholly support Google’s ambition to rectify this.”
