South West Communications Group Commits To Raising £20k For The Prince’s Trust

Exeter-based communications experts South West Communications Group has pledged to raise in excess of £20,000 for the Prince’s Trust during the next six months.

A series of events is planned with nearly £4,000 already raised for the Prince’s Trust, which provides practical and financial support to the young people who need it most by developing key skills, confidence and motivation, enabling them to move into work, education or training. South West Communications Group’s efforts will support young people in the Exeter area.

South West Communications Group is part of the Prince’s Trust “Million Makers” UK enterprise challenge involving teams throughout the country competing against each other to raise the required funds. In the south west region, there are teams from Exeter, Plymouth and Bristol with South West Communications Group aiming to beat their business rivals in making Exeter the best location for fundraising.

South West Communications Group has set up a fundraising committee, chaired up by senior account manager Simon Dunstan, that includes managing director Harry Langley and fellow directors Brett Varker and Sarah Flowers.

Mr Langley said: “As a business, we have always supported local charities that help children and young people living in our area. We are honored to be raising money for the Prince’s Trust and everyone at South West Communications Group is already working hard to achieve our fundraising target.”

South West Communications Group’s events have already started with mufti days and cake sales. In addition, on Saturday, September 27, the company car park, with its entrance in Avocet Road on the Sowton Industrial Estate, will be turned into a carwash with staff volunteering to put their polishing skills to the test. The carwash will be open between 10am to 4pm with washes costing just £4.50 per car or small van.

South West Communications Group, which is celebrating its 25-year anniversary this year, is also putting its expertise to good use by gathering old telephone systems that its engineers collect from sites and recycling the scrap metal content.

With recycling in mind, South West Communications Group is also keen to collect old mobile phones and would encourage any businesses or individuals to drop them into the company’s Sowton head office for environmental recycling.

Other events include a sponsored gym marathon in which staff will visit every gym in the city to use every piece of equipment they have; a Winter Ball that has already sold out will be held at Sandy Park Conference Centre in January 2009; a barn dance; a children’s Halloween party; parachute jumps from Dunkswell Aerodrome; a sponsored slim and an Exeter-wide scheme to raffle off an extra day’s holiday from your work place.

South West Communications Group has joined forces with both Jack in the Green at Rockbeare and Exeter Chiefs to boost their fundraising potential. The former will host a dinner evening and food quiz on November 20. Exeter Chiefs, of which South West Communications Group is the main club sponsor, have helped produce a semi nude calendar of the players. This will be available in October from a variety of outlets, including the Intersport Tony Pryce Sports club shop on match days and their main shop in Exeter’s city centre.
