SSE Telecoms expands UK-wide high capacity network

SSE Telecoms has completed its latest investment in network infrastructure by adding 100G connectivity between London and Manchester. This upgrade to the core network enables the company to meet growing customer demand for high speed, low latency Ethernet services delivered into the SSE Telecoms Manchester metro network.

SSE Telecoms was the first operator to launch Ethernet WAN services in the UK over ten years ago and since then has continued to develop the technology even further. With cloud computing making greater demands on networks for speed, low latency and high reliability, SSE Telecoms is introducing ever faster core and access network technology.

SSE Telecoms owns and operates one of the largest telecoms and data centre networks in the UK. The company specialises in high-capacity Ethernet, wavelengths, fibre services and co-location for network operators, cloud service providers and systems integrators.

As part of the recent improvements, existing routers were upgraded with minimum service interruption by using Alcatel-Lucent 7750 service routers. SSE’s choice of partner was based on the strong operational performance and rich feature set of the product.

Commenting on the latest expansion, Chris Jagusz, Managing Director of SSE Telecoms, said: “This network enhancement highlights SSE Telecoms’ ambition to keep developing our portfolio of high capacity services. Alcatel was a natural partner for us in this project – they have worked with us to push technological boundaries and provide the coverage, flexibility and reliability that customers expect.”
