Strategic Moves for Chess

Chess has made a number of promotions, further strengthening its organisational structure to steer the strategic direction the business will take to achieve continued year on year growth.

Andy Green, Chess performance manager and Corporate Customer Services Manager Kathryn Hill have joined the senior management team as Performance Manager and Head of Customer Services respectively. With them is Head of Finance, Scott Beaton, who is new to the business.

Andy has had a key role to play in Chess’ performance management strategy since he started with the business in April 2007. People development is fundamentally important to Chess and Andy was brought into the business to focus on this. Working closely with Chess’ existing senior management team, he has been responsible for the launch and roll out of Chess’ Personal Performance Programme – a nine day intensive course that will train all Chess people in the key areas needed for peak performance. “It’s an excellent tool,” said Green at its June launch, “It will really help us drive the growth of the business.”

Kathryn Hill, who has been with Chess since its acquisition of the mobile side of Eurocall in June 2004 is excited about the opportunities presented by her new role. “It’s our culture to exceed our customer’s expectations,” she said. “My role as Head of Customer Services will enable our focus on this to form a key part of our growth strategy, moving forward. It is a good time to be in our industry, particularly in a role that is so involved with the most important element of our business – our customers. The fact that Chess has recognised the need for a senior manager in this position is testament to its commitment their satisfaction and consequently, their loyalty. Retention of our existing customers is key to our growth.”

Beaton brings a wealth of financial and commercial knowledge and expertise into the business having previously worked for Opal Telecom. “I am delighted to join Chess’ Senior Management Team,” he commented. “I have done some consultancy for Chess in the past and I was impressed then by the company’s strategy and the passion and commitment throughout the organisation. I am looking forward to helping the finance team maximise their potential, tying their personal goals into Chess’ ambitions and success. This will enable us to exploit opportunities presented by our growth, maximise revenue and minimise our costs, efficiently integrating acquisitions and developing processes that allow us to effectively manage Chess’ continued rapid growth.”
