Surf Telecoms selects Geo Networks

Geo Networks Ltd (Geo), the provider of dedicated fibre networks, has announced its first five year deal with Surf Telecoms, a supplier of wholesale carrier fibre and bandwidth services.

The agreement will see the two organisations cement their existing relationship, with Surf Telecoms interconnecting with Geo’s network, enabling it to expand its own fibre route between Bristol and Tewkesbury, to offer fast scalability to support business growth.

Geo says its ability to provide a high speed, reliable and fully scalable fibre-based infrastructure secured its win against several other organisations that were invited to tender. Also central to the deal was Geo’s willingness to help Surf Telecoms meet its customer needs, including those of its recently acquired client Janet, who manages the UK’s leading research and education network.

Janet’s key requirement was to link its community of research and education institutions in the South West of England. Geo enables Surf Telecoms to meet this challenge by providing it with a dedicated infrastructure, on which it can fulfil Janet’s networking requirements, using its own equipment. Initially, Surf Telecoms will light 10Gbit/s across a 75km route, but it will be able to quickly and cost effectively scale up capacity to meet increasing customer demands.

“The new network enables us to deliver high speed connectivity whilst providing high capacity bandwidth to meet customer needs,” said Richard Doble, Design and Policy Manager at Surf. “We take our customers’ needs seriously and in today’s competitive market, it’s important to deliver a quality product and service, which provides them with tangible business benefits.”

Chris Smedley, Chief Executive at Geo, said: “With our private network tracking the gas mains, Surf Telecoms can ensure that its customers benefit from a resilient and secure solution that can deal with high volumes of traffic. Data delivery times will be improved and it will remove the risk of service interruptions often associated with shared platforms, subsequently ensuring customer confidence. This is the first deal between Geo Networks and Surf Telecoms, but given our ability to support their growing customer base, I am looking forward to developing our relationship with them further.”
