Talktalk Business Unveils National Engineering Centre Of Excellence

TalkTalk Business has announced that it will base its new National Engineering Centre of Excellence in Gateshead. The announcement comes just over six months after the company’s acquisition of Gateshead-based systems specialist, Executel.

The company says its new centre underlines their position as the UK’s largest Next Generation Network (NGN) operator and provider of business grade broadband and telecoms solutions. It also bolsters TalkTalk Business’ presence in the North East and allows it to build on the strong reputation and technical capabilities for which Executel was renowned across the UK.

The Engineering Centre of Excellence will provide a technology hub for TalkTalk Business’ systems and account management departments, with a team of over 30 staff managing a national network of field based engineers. TalkTalk Business says it is also the only solutions provider in the North East to be Microsoft ‘Lync’ accredited – demonstrating the team’s expertise in delivering Microsoft technologies.

The centre will be located at Executel’s former offices at Cameron House opposite the Metro Centre and will boast two demo suites to showcase TalkTalk Business’ extensive product portfolio.

Charles Bligh, managing director of TalkTalk Business, said: “Having acquired Executel earlier this year, we wanted to ensure that we maintained a major presence in the North East and so we’re delighted to unveil our new National Engineering Centre of Excellence.

“Not only does it build on Executel’s local legacy, we see the new centre as a strategic hub that will be pivotal to our continued growth, particularly within unified communications.”

Executel was synonymous with unified communications providing the complete spectrum of broadband, voice and mobile channels.

Bligh added: “We’ve got some very exciting plans for the new centre, which we hope will lead to local job creation and offer opportunities to young people in the North East to gain skills and expertise in the growing world of telecoms.”
