TalkTalk Enters Top Five Consumer ADSL Broadband Providers

TalkTalk, the consumer telephone provider owned by The Carphone Warehouse, has entered the top five consumer ADSL broadband providers in the UK, joining BT, Demon, AOL and Pipex at the top of the table in terms of technical performance.

The first quarter 2007 Internet Performance Indicator (IPI) Report from Epitiro – the UK’s leading Customer Experience Management (CEM) provider for Internet access services – has identified BT as the best performing broadband provider for the fourth consecutive quarter. AOL re-entered the table for the first time since Q3 2006.

Epitiro’s customer experience monitoring and competitor benchmarking service ISP-I (pronounced “eye spy”), monitored the services from the ten largest competing consumer ADSL broadband providers, collecting 634,392 real-time data samples from eleven locations around the UK. This means that from 1st January to 31st March 2007, each broadband service was tested 57,672 times on average.

ISP-I tests Internet services from the end-users’ perspective, providing detailed figures on the speed and reliability of Internet connections, how long it takes to connect to the Internet, downloads and uploads and the performance of both ping and DNS lookups

“In terms of technical performance, BT, Demon and Pipex are consistently maintaining their presence in the top five,” said Gavin Johns, Managing Director of Epitiro.

Nigel Stevens, product director at Thus, owners of the Demon brand, commented: “In the current, highly competitive broadband market, it is essential for ISPs to provide broadband to the highest quality possible. Thus, through its Demon brand, has endeavoured to do just that, and the news that Epitiro’s measurement has found us to be at the top of broadband provision in the UK demonstrates our success in meeting this aim.”
