TalkTalk Technology speaks to UK Grid and joins network

Data centre provider UK Grid has signed a long-term deal with TalkTalk Technology, part of TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC, which has built and maintains a large next generation network. The fixed line voice and broadband provider has taken on a 2,000 square foot data centre space at UK Grid’s flagship site in Manchester.

Since 2004, UK Grid has been designing, building and operating data centre facilities, connecting networks for some of the country’s biggest broadband providers, and hosting servers for companies and organisations including Arts Council England, AQA, Kitbag and Clickandbuy.

This new deal increases TalkTalk Group’s coverage and capacity in the North West. The company also recently announced revenues of £444 million for Q1 in 2010, and that it has grown its customer base to 4.23 million people. In addition, the business will be able to take advantage of UK Grid’s dark fibre connectivity to improve network reach and scalability.

Rob Garbutt, CEO at UK Grid commented: “We are delighted to have completed this deal with TalkTalk Technology. The company is ambitious and is already working hard to increase its services to over four million customers and more than 100,000 businesses.

“We believe that the agreement with a provider of this calibre shows the growing confidence and interest in the UK Grid model of cost effective, cleaner and efficient data centre provision, and we are pleased to have TalkTalk Technology on board."

Graham Chisnall, of TalkTalk Technology, commented: “It has been good to work with another North West-based company, enabling TalkTalk Group to expand capacity in the region. We look forward to working with UK Grid in the future.”
