The Mobile Data Association goes mobile with Wapple

Wapple is mobilising content on the Mobile Data Association’s (MDA) website and one of the industry’s sources of information and research. Mobile users accessing the MDA site are now automatically delivered content that is optimised perfectly for their mobile browser, from first generation handsets to the latest smartphones.

The MDA website is powered by the popular Joomla content management system. Through the new Wapple Architect Joomla plug-in, MDA web content is now mobile web friendly, providing the very best user experience for every existing and future mobile browser. Images are automatically resized and navigation, along with the look and feel of the website, is appropriately arranged for mobile consumption.

In addition, the MDA blog, which is part of the main website, is updated and tailored to mobile through Wapple Architect’s Wordpress plug-in, which works in exactly the same way as the one built for Joomla.

“Wapple entered our MDA Awards in 2008 and won their class – Best Mobile Data Application (Corporate); so when we decided to mobilise our web content, it seemed the perfect choice and a fitting tribute to the product,” said Martin Ballard, director at the MDA. “Our website currently has 250,000 hits a month from 30,000 unique visitors and now, through Wapple’s technology, mobile users will be delivered with optimised and up to the minute mobile friendly web content, regardless of the capabilities of their device.”

By using Wapple technology, the MDA needn’t worry about its mobile site being search engine friendly; Wapple’s Joomla and Wordpress plug-ins retain all web URLs so that only a single domain needs to be promoted and Google only has to spider a single set of website addresses.

Said Anne Thomas, COO at Wapple: “We are delighted to be working with the MDA to optimise its web content for mobile and it is a great showcase to the mobile industry. It’s also an opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of our new integration with leading web content management systems. Individuals and businesses that use Joomla or Wordpress can quickly get a mobile friendly version of their site using these powerful plug-ins.”

Wapple Architect was launched in April this year to allow developers to mobilise existing web content using the WAPL programming language and optimised for all mobile devices and browsers using the Architect API. The API has seen a huge upturn in usage since hundreds of individuals have downloaded and installed the promoted plug-ins for Joomla, Wordpress, CakePhp and PHP Classes.
