The move to high capacity connectivity

The connectivity world is shifting. Long gone are the days of 100Mbps services being enough to power your business operations. Nowadays high-capacity connectivity options are leading the way.

In 2020, Neos Networks kicked off the latest phase of our unbundling and investment programme, Project Edge. This centred around not only expanding our UK presence by more than double, but also upgrading our network in order to offer services up to 100Gbps across the majority of our footprint.

This was done with one common goal in mind; to bring better connectivity to the nation: a priority for many in the telco space.

Today they have one of the fastest growing B2B networks in the nation, spanning 34,000km of fibre infrastructure, 90 on-net data centres, 676 points of presence and 550 exchanges - all of which serve millions of businesses across the UK.

But why the investment in unbundling exchanges?

Simon Willmott, business development director for wholesale at Neos Networks (pictured above), stated, “From the get-go, we knew the importance of offering business connectivity solutions that could adapt to a business’s fast-changing needs. Being able to provide high capacity connectivity to suit a future-thinking market formed part of this.”

Edge originated back in 2016 when Neos Networks first launched their Ethernet expansion programme. The project initially identified 54 exchanges to add to the network, serving 200,000 business postcodes. Since then, the project has grown at speed. Today the network provider have 550 exchanges on-net, 532 of which offer high capacity connectivity and all of which serve almost 750,000 UK business.

“It’s been an exciting time for the business” says Willmott, “not only have we greatly expanded our Edge network and fibre footprint, more recently we announced our first foray into the depths of access networks. Over the next few years we’ll be bringing high capacity fibre access direct to the doors of four key business districts across the UK; Birmingham,  Liverpool, London and Manchester.”

Simon continues, “The project see’s us offer last-mile connectivity services direct to nearly 34,000 regional business and office locations, bypassing third-party providers.”

The deployment of this project is already underway with Liverpool set to come onstream in the coming months, and Birmingham and Manchester set to follow shortly thereafter. London will be the last city to be delivered, set to land in 2023.

One thing is clear, wherever you sit in the technology market, the industry is changing. Following a tumultuous few years for many, more and more businesses are looking to re-evaluate and restructure their IT strategies. Service Providers must ensure they have the connectivity options in place to meet this fast-paced marketplace.

In the last 18 months, Neos Networks have developed both their product set and their network, with partners in mind. Offering a range of robust, high capacity connectivity services including Ethernet over FTTx, full fibre Ethernet, dedicated internet access, optical and dark fibre delivered over 550 exchanges, 676 points of presence and 90 data centres, the provider supports their partners in delivering well established, highly reliable fibre infrastructure to their end-customers.

“We’ve been a key player in the B2B connectivity market for over 20 years,” says Simon. “These expertise are pivotal in the way we operate. We’re also known in the industry for our great customer service, with market leading net promoter scores currently averaging +67, and our mission-critical services and secure networks, which have been embraced by some major players in the UK economy.

“The really great thing,” continues Simon. “Is that our full network can be accessed via our online pricing and ordering tool, LIVEQUOTE. The portal really helps differentiate us in the sector. While a number of our competitors also offer up a pricing tool for their own services, following a heavy investment in LIVEQUOTE in September 2020, we can provide users with full transparency, a better choice of suppliers, with pricing made available for all key UK connectivity providers, and a range of pricing options. Now really is the ideal time to start a conversation with us”.
