THUS Launches SIP IP Exchange Lines For VoIP Telephony

Glasgow based national carrier THUS has announced the launch of its new SIP IP Exchange Lines saying the launch is a significant extension to their IP Exchange line portfolio of Business Class IP Voice services.

IP Exchange lines allow business users with advanced IP compatible telephone systems (IPPBXs) to connect directly from their data network to the THUS voice network using IP, replacing the need to convert through dedicated ISDN interfaces.

The company adds that since launching the service in 2006, businesses across the UK have chosen THUS IP Exchange Lines as an enabler for voice and data convergence. The lines provide all the feature rich capability of ISDN30 business lines, with the flexibility of running over a common data connection whether MPLS or Ethernet. Introducing SIP protocol further extends customer choice particularly for users wanting to take advantage of the additional media and collaboration capabilities it supports.

Customers using IP Exchange Lines services with IPPBXs can achieve greater flexibility over where calls are routed, providing the ability to send calls directly to employees wherever they have logged on to the company LAN. IP Exchange Lines provide greater scalability and faster network upgrades with soft upgrades administered remotely, and with all intersite calls retained in the LAN, reduced infrastructure costs can be achieved.

Nigel Stevens, Product Director at THUS plc, commented: "The IP Exchange Lines solution has proven to be one of our most popular for delivering business class VoIP telephony to businesses of all sizes. The true scalability and flexibility of IP Exchange Lines has proved particularly attractive, allowing customers to plan a smooth transition to a converged network, from first phase through to full deployment. Adding SIP now means that THUS can offer solutions for both of the dominant business VoIP protocols."

Businesses preferring SIP protocol are now able to enjoy the new benefits of THUS IP Exchange Lines, as well as standard services offered for ISDN30 e.g. existing number portability, call barring and call divert services.
