Thus Wins Contract with Leeds Metropolitan University

Thus has been awarded a contract by Leeds Metropolitan University to deliver voice services over its advanced next-generation network, improving the resilience and reliability of the University’s communications infrastructure as well as delivering major accessibility improvements for staff, students and the wider community.

Thus, one of the UK’s leading experts in communication solutions for the education sector, is providing 10,000 direct dial numbers to the University, enough to equip all its employees with a direct dial extension for the first time enhancing staff visibility and internal and external communication, and enabling improvements in efficiency.

Following a competitive tendering process Thus was awarded the new contract to deliver an estimated 220,000 minutes of calls a month through the university’s main campuses, Headingley campus and Civic Quarter. The new solution carries all University Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) call traffic across Thus’ next-generation network Thus is also providing an emergency divert service, which will allow the University to transfer incoming calls to another campus in the event of an emergency.

Thus’ network is the ideal platform to enable Leeds Metropolitan University to migrate to advanced communications services such as Voice over IP (VoIP) in the future. By providing an easy migration path to its IP Exchange Lines service, which delivers IP connectivity from an organisation’s internal VoIP system to the PSTN, Thus’ scalable solution meets the University’s requirement for a future proofed investment.
