Timico SIP Trunks Anticipate BT’s 21CN

Timico, the provider of converged communication services to the business market, has launched what they say is the world’s first pure SIP Trunk connectivity between a Nortel PBX system and the Nortel Multimedia Communications Server (MCS) 5200 platform, a VoIP system. Timico’s ability to deliver SIP trunks in this way provides existing and potential customers with a BT 21st Century Network (BT21CN) solution in advance of completion of the BT network rollout.

“By enabling a Nortel PBX to ‘talk’ to a Nortel MCS system we can offer customers the ability to overlay added value services, such as VoIP, onto their existing PBX without having to make a major capital investment. This connectivity is another example of our ability to offer innovative and technically advanced services to our customers,” says Trefor Davies, Technology Director at Timico.

Timico’s VoIP for Business service is the only true business-strength hosted VoIP solution in the UK SME marketplace. It is currently the only VoIP service based on the Nortel Multimedia Communications Server (MCS) 5200 platform commercially available for UK SMEs. Its partnership with Nortel has enabled Timico to develop an impressive SIP-based, multimedia communications service that provides voice and video conferencing together with Presence, Instant Messaging and a variety of collaboration tools.

Timico uniquely enhances its VoIP for Business service by being the only internet telephony service provider (ITSP) that is also a Mobile Service Provider, a fixed line service provider and a QoS enabled ISP. This means that not only can companies enjoy the benefits of VoIP at their main office site without having to throw away their existing PBX investment, they can also provide a toolkit of services to cover their home-workers and branch offices.
