Toshiba BCD Introduces New IP Soft Phone for Mobile Devices

Toshiba Business Communications Division (BCD) has announced the availability of a new version of the Strata IP Soft Phone. The new version extends the reach of the current IP Soft Phone to Windows Mobile devices, providing core desktop phone functionality to a mobile workforce.

The new IP Soft Phone client is an evolution of the existing IP Soft Phone for desktops and laptops, and can be downloaded directly onto Windows Mobile devices such as the Toshiba Portégé business mobile devices.

The IP Soft Phone client provides core functionality when connected to the Strata CIX, including establishing conference calls, call transfer, voicemail, onscreen directory calling, and call log. In addition, Windows Mobile devices can provide access to e-mail, faxes and the internet via high-speed packet download access (HSDPA). The combination of desktop and mobile phone technology gives business users the full range of office tools on a single device for working while out of the office.

Tim Webb, General Manager at Toshiba BCD, comments: “Allowing employees to work remotely is one of the major criteria for many successful, efficient organisations today. This seamless integration between desktop and mobile phone opens the door to the delivery of more flexible working practices for our customers. A single communications device will help businesses to improve customer service by ensuring that the right employee is always available, and drive improvements to productivity.”

The Toshiba Portégé devices use a Wi-Fi connection to the Strata CIX when in the office, and a GSM connection when out of range. In addition, the integration with Windows Mobile devices mean users can take advantage of Least Cost Routing (LCR), deciding the best tariff for each call and enabling users to reduce call costs.
