UC report to be launched in House of Commons

Unified Comms
Technologies that facilitate unified communication (UC) and collaboration hold the key to transforming public services in the UK, according to a new report backed by Richard Harrington, MP Watford, Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party.

The report, The Future of Communications and Collaboration for Local Authorities and the Community, commissioned by Freedom Communications, presents a vision of how UC technologies can effectively serve citizens better, faster and at lower cost, while providing a modern working environment that encourages flexibility and collaboration.

Research among 170 IT decision makers within UK local authorities suggests they are ready to embrace this vision, with almost half (48%), planning to introduce UC by the end of 2013.

Richard Harrington, Vice Chairman, Conservative Party, said: “Working with industry and those who are shaping the direction of global communications, I have witnessed first-hand how the application of emerging technologies can positively impact local authorities. Technology offers the opportunity to facilitate change greater than ever before. This is change that brings with it simplicity, efficiency and cost savings that at the same time provides greater service for the taxpayer and a more powerful and effective public service.”

The report will be launched by Richard Harrington MP at an event at the House of Commons on 16th May 2013 to present the vision for collaborative, efficient and effective local government. He will be joined by Julian Massel, Head of ICT Strategy & Client Services, Rochdale Council and David Hipwell, UC/Lync Voice Lead, Public Sector, Microsoft.

Chris Luff, Director, Freedom Communications, added: “By bringing key decision makers and technology experts together, our aim is to drive a greater awareness of how new technologies can transform local authorities. By planning well, securing senior buy-in and embracing cultural challenges, local authorities can become highly collaborative, productive and efficient operations that connect employees, departments and citizens.”
