Using Presence to Find Presents!

Aware that many business applications like UC haven’t easily accepted the “consumerisation” of IT with smartphones and iPads, Siemens Enterprise Communications’ OpenScape Unified Communications Suite 2011 now allows developers’ applications to be brought into big companies’ unified communications, with the following capabilities:

OpenScape PhoneApps - new collaboration applications solution for OpenStage phones, with integration with OpenScape applications and an open developer toolkit for additional customization or building new PhoneApps.

OpenScape Mobility, which now includes an expanded range of mobile collaboration clients, including for the iPad and iPhone, in addition to existing fixed-mobile convergence, WLAN and mobile UC solutions.

Updates to OpenScape Video: expanded integration and dialing plan unification with major video ecosystems and interoperable standards-based Hi-Definition (H.264) video conferencing at the OpenScape desktop client.

In the future, companies and contact centres could ask developer colleagues to build last minute location-based Christmas applications such as, “Find That Toy” to track down the last Buzz LightYear, Xbox Kinect, or iPad Nano....

This could be no joke as Christmas 2010 nears because BMO Holiday Research found that one quarter of men waits until the week before Christmas to start buying presents; half don’t even complete their shopping until Christmas Eve.

In the continuing bad weather, there are reports of around three million delayed parcels across the UK network

Paul Maddison, application partners and business development, Siemens Enterprise Communications, commented that: “With the Met Office forecasting more snow, travel services across the country coming to a halt again, and further – it’s time to try something new to find that must-have Buzz Lightyear or the Xbox Kinect for your kids.”
