Virgin Media and Nokia launch ‘V’ edition handsets

Virgin Media, headline sponsor of V Festival, has announced the launch of two special ‘V’ edition mobile phones from Virgin Media’s official partner, Nokia.

The Nokia 5230V and Nokia X6V, will feature a pre-loaded V Festival app and a host of extras to give festival-goers the perfect companion for the two day event taking place over 21 and 22 August at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire.

The special ‘V’ edition Nokia phones come complete with cutting-edge technology and include exclusive V Festival content. The Nokia 5230V is a stylish touchscreen handset with a custom V Festival red back cover and ten free music tracks available through the Nokia Music Store. The Nokia X6V comes complete with a 5 megapixel camera, a music player including mixing software, plus built-in speakers, so festival-goers can carry on the party after the acts have finished.

The Nokia 5230V and X6V both include free sat nav with Ovi Maps to ensure the journey to the V Festival is a smooth and enjoyable one. Plus, both handsets come with V Festival wallpaper, the new V Festival app and Shazam music identifier pre-loaded to the handsets.

The V Festival app comes embedded into the special edition phones and will allow festival-goers to stay up to date with all the latest buzz from V Festival. Social networking sites will be fed directly into the app as well as news, artist line-up information and live updates. The app will also allow festival goers to create their own personalised programme for the weekend and a GPS map of the entire site so they can head straight from stage to stage and find their friends with ease.

Jonathan Kini, director of mobile, at Virgin Media, said: “We’re really excited to be partnering with Nokia to offer our customers the complete festival package this summer. The special ‘V’ edition handsets launching in July will be the perfect partner for revellers and the new V Festival app will transform their weekend, with the latest festival info available at the touch of a button.”

John Nichols, head of marketing, Nokia UK, said: “Your mobile plays a vital role in keeping music fans and mates connected at festivals. Our special edition Nokia V phones and Ovi app combine maps and content with social networking, which is sure to help fans capture and share the best of V Festival 2010.”
