Vodafone CEO Looks for Fixed Line Revenues

Reuters reported at the weekend that Vodafone Group Plc plans to offer fixed-line telecoms services alongside its traditional mobile phone business, Vodafone Chief Executive Arun Sarin told a UK newspaper.

Vodafone was looking at offering broadband Internet and VoIP over phone lines to compete with fixed-line rivals, Sarin said in an interview with The Business.

"The question is as the world evolves with services like VoIP and Wi-Fi and all that, should we expand the services our company provides?" Sarin was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Sarin said Vodafone had no immediate plans to acquire fixed-line players such as BT Group Plc. Vodafone on Friday agreed to sell its Japan business for 1.8 trillion yen ($15.47 billion) to Softbank Corp.
