Westell Wins New BT Contract

Westell Technologies, a leading provider of convergence gateways, broadband access solutions and conferencing services, has signed a contract with BT in the UK to supply and support its InterChange iQ (IiQ) Convergence Gateway range. The two-year deal, an extension to Westell’s previous supplier contract, is worth up to £2 million and demonstrates Westell’s continuing success in the IP convergence migration market in which they currently experience an annual business growth rate of 40%.

The Westell’s IiQ range of products offer organisations using traditional DPNSS PBX networks a number of alternatives for an evolutionary migration to converged IP networks. Westell is contracted to provide BT the IiQ2000+ product and the entire IiQ 2030 series as well as deliver repairs, on-demand installation, support services and training on the respective products. The IiQ2000+ product provides advanced internetworking between DPNSS and IP Telephony systems such as Cisco’s CallManager, allowing organisations to reap the cost benefits of IP Telephony. The IiQ2030 family of gateways enable customers to connect DPNSS PBXs over an IP network to combine their voice and data network, offering substantial cost savings.

“Our IiQ range of convergence products act as a stepping stone between legacy PBXs and IP networks so organisations can migrate sensibly and confidently to IP and enjoy all the benefits with none of the risk, whilst still sweating their existing assets,” said David McKeigue, Managing Director, Westell Ltd. “The two-year contract with BT fully endorses this belief and we look forward to enjoying great success together.”

“Converged networks offer attractive cost savings and feature benefits that enterprises and organisations that wish to take advantage of, but are concerned by the leap of faith they need to take to completely replace their network. Westell’s IiQ products provide organisations with the confidence to embrace converged IP solutions and realise the benefits minimising the associated costs and disruption,” said David Vernon, Product Manager, BT. "BT’s IP Clear network has resulted in increasing customer demand for flexible solutions that enable legacy PBXs to communicate with IP-based solutions. Westell’s IiQ range will enable BT to provide its customers with a reliable and cost effective solution to meet their needs.”

The relationship between Westell and BT has already borne some significant customer successes, many of which are in the public sector. Westell and BT will continue focusing their energies on the specific verticals of the Police, Councils, Health and Higher Education for greater market penetration.

“The new two- year contract between BT and Westell reinforces the great relationship which already exists and which continues to grow from strength to strength,” said Kathie Buzzeo, BT Procurement Buyer.
