ZTE Corporation, global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announces the availability of its new flagship smartphone, the ZTE Skate, and the ZTE Libra in the UK.

The Skate and Libra are the first ZTE-branded devices to be sold in the UK. Distributed sim-free, the devices are available now from a number of well-known retailers: Amazon.co.uk, Expansys, Clove and DPC.

The competitively priced ZTE Skate runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a large 4.3 inch full touch screen, a fast 800MHz processor and a 5MP autofocus camera. It is a slimline 11.35mm and weighs just 148g, with styling inspired by the skateboard to reflect the energetic lifestyle of the handset’s target market.

The sleek ZTE Libra runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and boasts an impressive 3.5” WVGA touch screen display with 480 x 800 pixels. Its 5MP autofocus camera enables users to take high-quality pictures with the added benefit of being able to use the digital zoom and GeoTagging capabilities.

“The Skate puts ZTE on track to become a household name in the UK, synonymous with high quality smartphones and tablets,” said Wu Sa, director of mobile device operations, ZTE UK. “Like the ZTE Blade, the Skate represents our commitment to producing higher-end smartphones and delivering an enhanced user experience at a competitive price to appeal to the mass market.”

The ZTE Skate has already been launched in Spain, Brazil and Hong Kong, rolling out globally later this year. It is expected to build on the success of the ZTE Blade smartphone, which has sold over 3 million units across over 50 countries, and has recently become the biggest selling Android smartphone in China, averaging more than 17,000 units per day.
