Scotland based reseller Ogilvie Communications has announced its acquisition of Gateshead based Comtec Business Communications, one of the largest independent partners for Samsung Communications in the UK.

The purchase will expand Ogilvie Communications customer base in the north of England and is expected to double the Stirling based company's turnover and profits in the forthcoming year.

Comtec, which has 20 employees, is a major provider of business telecommunications equipment in the north east of England. It has a turnover of £1.5 million and a blue chip client list of companies and organisations including BP, Barnardo's, Age Concern and The Children's Society.

Commenting on the acquisition, Gil Ogilvie-Johns, managing director of Ogilvie Communications, said: "Strategically, Comtec is an extremely close fit with our business - we are both well established Samsung partners and have dynamic telecommunications divisions. Both companies have distinct strengths that will key to Ogilvie Communications' growth - Comtec has a strong client base in the north east of England and geographically, it satisfies Ogilvie's expansion ambitions. While Ogilvie's IT and security expertise, in addition to the fact that we are an Inter-Tel partner, will be key to the organic growth of Comtec in the future."

John Knox, managing director of Comtec said: "Since establishing the company in 1990, we have achieved many of our goals, including winning Platinum partner status with Samsung in 1994. We see this as a natural progression for the company, as it enables fellow director, Rosie Leslie and I to seek out new challenges in the industry."

Ogilvie Communications is part of the Ogilvie Group, which recently reported a 21% jump in pre-tax profits to £5.3 million in 2006, with turnover for the year up by £29 million to £176 million.

Ogilvie Communications has a long and established track record in the supply and installation of business telephone systems, IT security and IT support, achieving a turnover of £1.6 million in 2006.

This is the company's third acquisition in as many years, having purchased the Business Communications Division of Scottish Communication Systems Ltd (SCS), the Perth-based security equipment specialist in 2005 and the maintenance contracts division of Aberdeen-based Hutcheon Services in 2006.

With its strong and recognised brand in the region, the company will retain the Comtec Business Communications name. Shareholder, Gareth Rees, remains with company as operations manager.
