Travel eSIMs, satellite roaming, and 5G standalone (SA) roaming noted as three key innovations.

The roaming market could return to growth, with several innovations set to help providers improve their service offerings for customers.

The findings were included in Juniper Research’s Roaming Tech Horizon for 2025 report.

The report identified the three major innovations that could open up growth in the roaming market in 2025. First of those was travel eSIMs, which can provide a lower cost alternative to traditional mobile roaming services. Juniper Research has forecast growth in spend on travel eSIM packages.

Second was satellite roaming, with Juniper Research expecting recent investments and partnerships throughout the ecosystem to lead to satellite roaming playing an increasingly important role in providing roaming coverage in remote areas.

Third was 5G standalone (SA) roaming. Over the next 12 months, Juniper Research believes operators will begin to launch 5G standalone roaming services to support anticipated growth in roaming IoT connections.

Alex Webb, senior research analyst, Juniper Research, said, “Roaming services have stagnated over the last 10 years. However, there is now a wave of service innovation in the market.

“Our latest Tech Horizon explores how we expect these emerging technologies to impact the status quo and contribute to future revenue growth within the roaming market.”
