D-Link offers affordable 10-Gigabit switching with DXS-3600 launch

D-Link has unveiled the latest addition to its range of 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches designed to cost-effectively meet organisations’ evolving networking requirements

The new DXS-3600 10GbE L2/L3 Switch family boasts wired-speed 10-Gigabit Ethernet switching, routing and very low latency, packed into a compact 1U modular design that ensures flexibility, scalability and reliability. The switches are ideally suited to top-of-rack deployments within small to medium data centres and enterprise/campus aggregation network environments, such as secondary schools and universities.

“This series of next-generation Layer 3 Gigabit switches further augments our switching portfolio allowing us to deliver performance, flexibility, security, multi-layer QoS and access across the entire network," said Andrew Mulholland, Business Solutions Manager at D-Link UK & Ireland. “10Gb connectivity is increasingly driving the market and the DXS-3600 provides this capability without the need to invest in a full chassis switch. The DXS-3600 series is scalable yet affordable, offering organisations a cost-effective way to increase their network backbone without increasing their rack space.”

The DXS 3600 series have 24 fixed 10 GbE SFP+ ports, with an expansion module for adding extra ports or other connectivity options including stacking, optical interfaces or 10G Base-T connections. This makes the DXS-3600 ideal for those organisations with a number of storage attached interfaces.

Redundant and hot swappable power supplies and fan trays guarantee high availability, while a range of energy-efficiency features such as selectable air-flow, port sensing and smart fan control ensure power consumption is kept to a minimum. Combined with versatile management functions and comprehensive security features for connectivity and access control, organisations can offer better network access and performance.

The DXS-3600 family is very attractively priced, which, combined with its modular and scalable design, ensures customers’ networks are future-proofed, giving them a low-cost of entry with the ability to upgrade features and functionality through expansion modules, software images and firmware updates in the future.

"The DXS-3600 family is designed to slot perfectly into a range of scenarios, whether it is acting as a departmental access layer device or a core switch supporting a high-speed backbone and centralised servers or a high density of IP cameras. This range delivers all the core functionality a customer would expect and also the flexibility to ensure their current and future networking requirements will be met,” added Mulholland.
