LG KE800

Networks & Network Services
So the story continues: the next LG Chocolate phone – the ‘Chocolate Platinum’, apparently, because it has that silvery band – aims to prove that style doesn’t need come on the expense of functionality, the accusation levelled at the original KG800.
So this one gets a 2mp autofocus camera, a QVGA TFT display, microSD memory card slot and FM radio. Although the KE800 is styled in a more masculine mode, with crisper edges it’s definitely in the same family: pretty much the same measurements (2mm thicker, 10g heavier), same glossy mirror-like surface, same touchpad with red navigation symbols that appear when it’s slid open.

This time though the touchpad is much more precise – you have to touch the red markings directly, a couple of millimetres away has no effect.

The only real downsides are the slow and inconvenient camera interface, a distinctly iffy web browser – and the like-it-or-loathe-it touchpad technology.

• Turns out that LG does a bloke’s phone rather well
