Wibree is a new short-range wireless connection technology from Nokia, smaller and up to 10 times more energy-efficient than Bluetooth technology.
The first commercial implementations should appear during Q3 of next year. Wibree uses the same spectrum band as Bluetooth and is also limited in range (10m) and speed (no faster than 1Mbps). Nokia sees Wibree being used for applications like links between phones and watches or sports sensors, where cheap low-power technology would be a better fit than Bluetooth.
