Fraudster Mark Selby has been sentenced to six years for his part in a £57m mobile phone VAT scam. It looks like a classic – a dozen UK companies were set up and VAT registered for the purposes of purchasing VAT-free phones in another EU member state, selling them at a VAT-inclusive purchase price in the UK and then going missing or defaulting without paying the VAT due.
