D-Link, a provider of networking and communication solutions to the consumer, SMB and enterprise markets, has announced the launch of a new wireless router, the DSL-G804V.
The vendor says the unit is a versatile, high-speed remote router designed for small to medium offices. “With integrated ADSL2/2+ supporting up to 24Mbps download speed, IPSec VPN data encryption, firewall protection, Quality of Service (QoS), 802.11g Wireless LAN and 4 Ethernet switch ports, this router provides all the functions that a small business needs to establish a reliable and convenient high-speed remote link to the outside world. This wireless router can be deployed at a branch office for secure connection to a corporate head office over the Internet.”
“D-Link is striving to provide our customers with products that are easy to install and manage, yet provide the best performance and security available. The DSL-G804V achieves exactly that by incorporating the latest high speed technologies and security features combined with all the established functions of a small business router,” explains Osbert Ong, Product Manager D-Link Europe. “By incorporating advanced security functionality in the box, D-Link makes it easy for small businesses that do not have IT resources in house to embrace these functionalities and protect their infrastructure” concludes Ong.
The DSL-G804V features the latest ADSL2/ADSL2+ standards, providing speeds of up to 24Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream (ADSL2+), or 12Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream (ADSL2). The DSL-G804V provides integrated 802.11g WLAN supporting wireless speeds of up to 54Mbps and interoperability with 802.11b wireless devices on the 2.4GHz frequency band. It also comes with an integrated four-port 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch. These built-in functions save you the cost and trouble of installing a separate wireless access point and Ethernet switch.
The DSL-G804V secures your communication channels through VPN tunneling protocols. You can safely exchange mail and data with your head office over the Internet, without fear of observation, modification, or spoofing. Supported data encapsulation, encryption and authentication options include DES, 3DES, AES that enable you to carry out applications including Intranets, Extranets, and Remote user access.
In addition to VPN, the router provides integrated firewall security using Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Denial of Service (DoS) attack protection. Access control is provided with packet filtering based on port and source/destination MAC/IP addresses. Parental control is provided through web site blocking using text strings or domain name detection. With Virtual Server Mapping, the router can be set to allow separate FTP, Web, and servers to share the same Internet-visible IP address while still protecting your servers and workstations from hackers. You can configure any of the built-in LAN ports of the router to function as a DMZ port. A DMZ setting can be applied to a single client (such as a Web server) behind the DSL-G804V to fully expose it to the Internet and ensure complete Internet application compatibility even if the specific port is not known. This allows you to set up web sites and e-commerce applications from your office while maintaining protection for the rest of your office LAN.
